FAQs

Do you work outside of the Barrington area?

Yes.  We serve the greater Chicagoland area.

Where do you get your plant material from?

We locally source our plant material to ensure that it is grown in our local soil types   and is hearty to our climate.

How long does a typical landscape project take to install?

Most of our landscape projects take between 1-3 weeks to install.  We have all the materials on hand to maximize efficiencies and once we start your project we stay on the job with the same crews until the job is complete.

Do you charge a design fee?

We charge a design retainer for projects that require sufficient design time.  The retainer is applied to the project cost at time of installation.

When is the right time to plant trees and shrubs?

Any time during mild weather is the right time to plant trees and shrubs.  Locally sourced plant material is climate hearty and will thrive in its new location.

How much should I water my lawn?

The general rule of thumb is one inch of water per week.  We strongly recommend a deep watering routine that delivers the same amount of water each week but at less frequent intervals.  Water longer each time but less frequent.  This technique promotes a deeper root structure with a heartier healthier lawn.

How often should I fertilize my lawn?

For lawns that do not have regular watering from an automatic irrigation system we recommend 2 – 3 fertilizations per year.  For lawns with automatic irrigation systems we recommend 3-4 fertilizations per year.

Do I need to mulch every year?

Generally you should only need to re-mulch beds every 2-3 years.  Proper mulching adds valuable nutrients to the soil.  Mulch needs a season or two to break down into a soil amendment.  Your beds should not have more than 3 inches of mulch coverage.
